This may bore half of you, and interest half of you, but we'd love feedback. I know that a number of other parents in the adoption world have posted their lists, and we have compiled ours by taking much of what they have listed, and making it our own.... Enjoy.

If you are wondering how we are going to get all this into 4 suitcases, that makes 2 of us... We'll have to see how it goes as it all gets closer, but we may end up with an extra container just to get us all the way over there...
So what does everyone think? Too much? What are we missing? What are we bringing that we don't need to....Ruth? Darci? Jessa? Got any more ideas for us :)
looks like you've got everything...except the call. I hope that comes soon. Still praying for you and your girls.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite the list! I love making lists - I always make one for whenever we're packing up to go somewhere.
ReplyDeleteOn a technical side note, it looks like you've got some wonky formatting going on in this post. It's still readable, just with some extra gobbledy-goop (yes, that's the official term for it). :)
I'd take along a few regular plastic bags - grocery store size. I can't tell you for what, but we were encouraged in this, and we used them all!
ReplyDeleteDid I miss on the list seeing an ipod? I may have. You can get really good Ethiopian music downloaded from ITunes, and of course any other music they might like to listen to.
Also, on your laptop computer, do you have any simple movies downloaded for extra entertainment possibilities during long days there? Barney, Curious George, etc.
Whether you're staying at the Weygoss or Afroland or KVI Guesthouse, there are places to kick a ball around...you may want to consider buying an inflatable soccer ball at Soccerland (Transcona) and a small pump. You could always leave the ball with someone there...we left ours with children neighbouring our guesthouse, where we'd seen a bunch of boys kicking a rag ball around the laneway.
Oh, and what about throat lozenges...we were encouraged to take some and were very glad we did. There are days when it's just so dusty and dirty that it feels like your throat really, really needs something with a bit of menthol to suck on.
And have you ever seen at Vita Health a small bag of pellet-sized hand wipes - they're not sanitized, but they're tiny...all you do is pour a few drops of water on them from your water bottle and then pull it apart into a fantastic little cloth. I often wiped down restaurant tables that way, and also used them regularly for wiping my face off if I was feeling gritty from the dust/dirt.
OK, you're so terribly well prepared (way to go Hilary...'cause I know it's you!!) that I've probably just told you a bunch of stuff that is actually on your list but I just missed!
I can't wait until you're madly trying to pack those suitcases!!
BLessings, hugs, prayers and love coming your way...and all the way over to ET.
Ruth
