Today was a bit of a difficult parenting day.
We woke up at our normal times this morning, and had a pretty good morning... Eli was happy, and was excited once I woke up, and had a tough time leaving my side once I woke up... We spent some of the morning playing, and just generally having a good time in the room. At 9:30, we put Eli down for a nap. While he was having a nap, I went for a bath to soothe my back, while Hilary cleaned up, and surfed the internet a little. Eli woke up, and was quite happy again, but as soon as we put him on the potty, he was inconsolable. We felt that this was a moment that we needed to ensure that he stayed there until he acknowledged that he was done. He refused to acknowledge this in any way, and cried for a half hour to 45 minutes... Screaming. We were both sitting right with him, and he knew exactly what he was to do, but refused to do it. Finally, he was able to "tell us" that he was done, and we got him ready for lunch. Again, he absolutely refused to eat anything we gave him, even though we know that he likes everything we tried to feed him.. Again, the wailing continued. He ate almost nothing, and we finally made the decision that it was time for a nap. He did not like this either, but I lay down with him, and he slept for almost 2 hours. He woke up much happier, and ready to be a happy boy.
We went for a walk to the grocery store which we have discovered in the last week or so, and bought a few things that we needed, and came home again... It was about an hour excursion, and we had no meltdowns. We played, and blew bubbles, and just generally had fun as a family until supper. I went out to get some food, and we had supper, and Eli was quite a happy little camper. He was very content all evening, which was nice for us, and put everyone in a better mood. We put him to bed around 7:15, and he fell asleep almost right away.
Hilary and I have started watching some Star Trek: The Next Generation in the past few days, and are really enjoying the early seasons. It has felt a little bit more like home, having this time to unwind watching this series that we both enjoy.

Sorry he is not sleeping well for you guys. Maybe it's a sign he's growing or getting some milestones. Sometimes that disturbs sleep.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your stuff was sent off to Nairobi. It was all on Martha's desk when we were there Tuesday, so i knew she was working on it!
Take care!
