Today was a good day. Normal morning routines were observed, and at 11:45 or so, we were picked up by Markos to go for a swim at the Sheraton.
It looked like there might be some rain, but after checking the forecast, it appeared that it would not rain a lot. We got to the pool, and jumped right in. As expected Eli loved the water again, and we spent about an hour in the pool before we started to get a bit hungry. We got out of the pool, and ordered some lunch. Eli and I waited for the food, while Hilary got a little bit more swimming in before lunch. Lunch came, and we ate. Once we were all satisfactorily full, we decided that it might be time for more swimming. Then the rain started. Hilary tried to get back into the pool, but was told that we were not allowed to swim in the rain :(. So we hunkered down on the lawn chairs under the yellow umbrella's. We figured we had a set up that was going to keep us mostly dry, so we thought we'd just wait the rain out... But clearly we had underestimated how much rain there would be :). It rained very hard for about an hour and a half. Eli fell asleep for a chunk of it, but by the end, we were all getting a bit cold (we could see our breath, and there was lots of steam coming off the pool), so during a lull in the action, we decided to pack up and head back to the guesthouse. We did not stay very dry during this process...
We went and waited at the appropriate time for Markos to pick us up, and lo and behold, F&C were in the vehicle as well. We had made some plans to spend part of the evening with them, so it was a welcome sight to see them. We chatted on our way back to the guesthouse, and in the end, confirmed the plans we had made earlier in the day to get together for supper, and for me to help them with some internet issues they were having.
At 5:00, they came to our guesthouse, and we went out to Makush for supper. We had a great time touching base, and sharing some stories about our adoption processes to date, and discussions about how our transition had gone (as they are getting a girl at a similar age as Eli). Eli was pretty good throughout the meal, and seemed to generally have a good time. After supper F&C came over for some internet queries, and we took care of them (we think :)). We chatted for a while, and Eli kept on playing. He was getting tired, and once F&C left, we put him to bed.
We all had a great day, and I think we have tired Eli out today, and hopefully it will make for a later sleep in tomorrow for this little guy.
One funny story from today was after his morning nap. He woke up a little early from the nap, and we were hoping that he might fall back asleep as he so often does. So we were sitting on the couch, facing him, trying not to acknowledge that he was awake. He does not get off the bed unless he is given the permission to get off and be awake for good. At some point, we realized that he was not going to fall back to sleep (after about 5 minutes), and so I told him to get up and come to me... It was almost like I had told him he had won the lottery... He jumped off the bed, in his excited way, and ran excitedly and with screams of joy to my lap. It was a very cute display of excitement from our little boy. Hilary and I laughed about this for a while.

Such a sweet story!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow - he stays in bed until released?
We showed some of your photos to Pauline today and she was delighted to see Eli, and to see you two new parents.
